Opening Day November 25, 2002
The new eight-mile highway, US 220 and eventually to be also I-99, opened to traffic on Monday, November 25, 2002 after a brief ceremony on the highway near Innovation Park.
Project captures pavement quality and design awards The Route 26/US220/I-99 project in Centre County captured two Pennsylvania Partnership for Highway Quality Awards, announced April 4, 2003 at the transportation industry’s spring conference in Hershey, Pa. ·

Partnership for Highway Quality Design Award:
Section CO2, the two-mile section of four-lane, divided highway
between the reconstructed Route 322/Park Avenue interchange and Big Hollow
Road. The section includes
more than seven miles of new interchange ramps and 10 bridges to create a
major, new, three-tiered interchange linking to Route 322. · Pennsylvania Partnership for Highway Quality Concrete Pavement Award: Section AO2, a 1.4-mile portion of highway in Benner and College townships between Big Hollow and Rock roads. This section includes eight bridges and 1.5 miles of ramps. In fall 2003, the project captured a third award, a
2003 Globe Award, presented during ceremonies in Washington, D.C. to Erdman
Anthony & Associates, Inc. · Globe Award: This award was for the “highway” category. Globe Awards are presented by the American Road & Transportation Builders Association - Transportation Development Foundation to honor environmental protection and/or enhancement in planning, design and construction. |
