Construction Update: SEC. C04

Construction Update: SEC. C04Completed in 2003, CO4 involved the widening, repaving and other improvements of four miles of Route 22/522 from Wakefield Road in Oliver Township to Airport Hill Road in Granville Township.

Ground was broken on March 31, 2000 and work began in April 2000 to improve this portion of Route 22/522 for both through-traffic and local travelers.

The $6.8 million in CO4 work was done by Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College. Work began with utility relocation and a temporary widening of the westbound highway lane to permit the roadway to continue to carry two traffic lanes while the eastbound lane was being widened. By July 2000, traffic west of Strodes Run began using the newly-improved roadway and work got underway on the westbound lanes.

Crews erect the prestressed concrete beams for the new bridge over Strodes Run.

The new Strodes Run Bridge was completed in December 2000.  A temporary crossing was built over Strodes Run to carry traffic while a new bridge was being constructed.   The Strodes Mill Baptist Church at Strodes Run was razed to make way for the improvement, after its congregation relocated to a new church on Route 22/522.

There was extensive coordination with property owners along the highway on issues such as highway access, utility relocation as well as other widening activities.
