December 2006:  Highway construction is completed.

October 16, 2006:  On Monday, October 16, at 4 p.m., the full Route 22/522 Northern Lewistown Bypass Project opened with the opening of the Industrial Park Road Interchange.

November 21, 2005:  These photos are from the opening of the Northern Lewistown Bypass as officials rolled out the barrels to open the new Route 22/522 between the Electric Avenue Interchange and Caldwell Hill Road in Mifflin County.  Click on the photo to enlarge it.



 

October 15, 2005:  These photos are from the Saturday, October 15, 2005 community events on the new Route 22/522 Northern Lewistown Bypass.  A dedication honored the naming of the highway (between Caldwell Hill Road and the Route 322 Electric Avenue Interchange) as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway.  From noon until 4 p.m., the community enjoyed a Roll & Stroll with the YMCA and WCHX, WKVA, and WVNW radio on hand.  The highway opened  November 21, with temporary ramps used to exit at the Industrial Drive Interchange.

November 13, 2001:  Mashuda Corporation of Cranberry, Pa., was the successful bidder for the $64 million Section AO2, to connect the eastern and western sections of the bypass project.

January 3, 2001:  HRI, Inc. of State College received the second contract in the Northern Lewistown Bypass Project, a $50.6 million contract to build one mile of new four-lane, divided, limited-access highway, along with bridges, ramps and a new Electric Avenue Interchange.  It was completed in 2003.

March 31, 2000: PennDOT formally broke ground for the estimated $130 million improvement of Route 22/522 and the Northern Lewistown Bypass.

March 8, 2000:  Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College won the first contract in the Northern Lewistown Bypass Project, a $6.8 million improvement of four miles of Route 22/522 in Oliver and Granville townships west of Lewistown. It was completed in 2003.
